Hostel Review: Nordic Hostel Iceland

Finding budget-friendly accommodation in Iceland can feel nearly impossible – but Nordic Hostel changes the game. Not only is it affordable, it offers a touch of luxury at a great price! Located conveniently in the heart of Reykjavik, it’s a perfect base for exploring the city’s top sights, restaurants, and nightlife. With modern amenities, clean rooms, and a friendly atmosphere, it’s no wonder Nordic Hostel is a favorite among travelers seeking comfort without breaking the bank.

Location

Just a 15–20 minute walk to the city centre and 15 minutes from the BSI Bus Terminal, Nordic Hostel is perfectly situated. It’s close enough to reach Reykjavik’s top attractions with ease, yet far enough to enjoy a peaceful escape from the city’s noise and commotion.

Rooms

Nordic Hostel offers two types of pods: single or double. While both are part of a dormitory setup, each pod is completely private, giving you your own personal space. Equipped with blackout curtains, a comfortable bed, and cozy lighting, you’ll feel like you have your own room while still enjoying the social vibe of a shared space.

My Room - Single Pod

This was my first solo hostel stay, and I’ll admit I was a little unsure what to expect – but Nordic Hostel set the bar high! I stayed in a bottom pod in a 14-pod dormitory, which came equipped with a blackout curtain, pull-out desk, power outlets, and coat hangers. Underneath the pod, a private locker easily held my carry-on suitcase and backpack, and the bed came with fresh linen, a cushy pillow, and a towel.

I was truly impressed – it was a very comfortable and worry-free stay, perfect for solo travelers.

Facilities

Common Area

Nordic Hostel boasts one of the most beautiful common areas I’ve ever seen – even compared to hotels! The decor feels homely, and the lighting is soft and comfortable rather than harsh. With hanging egg chairs, plenty of tables, games, and a TV screen showing calming scenes, it’s the perfect spot to relax or socialize.

Kitchen

The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped, with enough room for everyone’s food in the fridge and on the shelves. Sticky notes are provided for labeling your items – a small touch that makes life much easier! The kitchen/fridge did sometimes have a bit of a fishy smell to it, but I always forgot about it after being in there for a little while.

Bathroom

There are six individual bathrooms, each with a toilet and a luxurious shower featuring a rain showerhead. I loved having an entire bathroom to myself in the evenings. The design is beautiful, and the attention to detail shows the effort put into making the hostel feel stylish and welcoming.

Bar

The check-in area doubles as a bar, offering coffee, cocktails, and other drinks for purchase.

Wi-Fi

Included and reliable, making it easy to stay connected during your stay.

Safety

Entry to both the hostel and your dorm is via a coded keypad, with each guest having a unique code that works for both the main door and your specific dorm pod. Safe, secure, and very modern!

Luggage Storage

Arriving on an early flight or departing late? Nordic Hostel offers secure luggage storage, so you can leave your bags safely while you explore Reykjavik stress-free.

Final Thoughts

This was, without a doubt, my most impressive hostel stay, and I honestly can’t imagine anything topping it! From the comfortable private pods and beautifully designed common areas to the modern amenities and thoughtful touches throughout, every detail felt carefully considered. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly stay in Reykjavik that doesn’t compromise on comfort or style, Nordic Hostel is the perfect choice – they’ll make you feel welcomed, relaxed, and right at home.
