Hostel Review: Qbeds Hostel Quebec

Ideally located in the heart of Quebec City, Qbeds offers comfort, functional (and funky spaces, all at affordable prices.

Whether you’re here for a short time or a long time, Qbeds Hostel works as the ultimate base for your travels.

Location

Located on Grande Allee street, Qbeds is one of the best and most popular streets in town, with many bars and restaurants to choose from. It’s also a great base to many of the attractions, including the citadelle, and only a 20 minute walk to Dufferin Terrace where you can see the iconic Fairmont and ride the Funicular to Lower Town (Quartier Petit-Champlain)

Rooms

With 3 levels of rooms, ranging from 4 – 16 bed dorms, some offering balconies or private lounges, private rooms for couple, or even a private family room with a games room – Qbeds has something for every type of person.

My Room - Single Bed in Female 8 Bed Dorm

I had a very comfortable stay at Qbeds. My room was situated on the second floor so thankfully only the one flight of stairs to take! The mattress was extremely comfortable, and the storage space under the bed was very handy for keeping my belongings safe. I felt the curtain gave me an adequate amount of privacy. The bed also included an electric outlet for charging devices and a small shelf to put things.

There is air conditioning in the room, however I did find this to be quite hot at times, and would have much preferred it to be cooler and a duvet provided (only a top and bottom sheet are offered). The storage beneath the bed is great however you do have to pull it out entirely in order to fully open the cage.

Facilities

Breakfast
A grab and go style breakfast was provided, you are able to choose 5 items out of a coffee, juice, breakfast bar, yoghurt, cheese, or boiled egg. This was adequate for the morning but not quite a full breakfast if this is what you are expecting.

Common Area
Qbeds has many areas for your convenience. There is a quiet area, space around the bar, the kitchen, an outdoor hangout, and a really cool room with a few hammocks and at the end of the hallway a net that you can lie on above the room.

Kitchen
The kitchen didn’t seem to be often used when I was around but was a very functional area that had every you could need. There is plenty of seating surrounding the kitchen so you never had to worry about finding somewhere to eat.

Bathroom
There are bathrooms on all levels of the hotel including the floor level. On my level there were mens, womens, and private bathrooms – as well as mens, womens and mixed showers. I did find the shower set up a bit uneasy. Even when you use the designated female bathroom there is no lock on the shower door, and nothing but a curtain and a small space for getting undressed/dressed before getting in the shower. Thankfully nothing every happened but I did feel a little unsure when I had to go in.

Bar
The bar is only open certain times throughout the year so I didn’t get to experience this myself – however it’s quite a large area so looked like it’d be a great place to hangout when it is open.

Wi-Fi
Free Wi-Fi is provided for the stay. The connection is a bit weak for streaming so if you’re planning on watching a movie/show expect some disruptions.

Safety
The main door seems to be unlocked 24/7 so access to the hostel really could be used by anyone. The door to the dorms was always unlocked also, however the door to the actual room was locked with a little key fob to unlock it.

Luggage Storage
I didn’t notice any official luggage storage space – however you can leave your belongings in the reception area when you arrive/depart.

Fitness Room & Movie Theatre
Though I didn’t utilise these facilities while I was here, they were available for use on the very bottom floor of the hostel.

Final Thoughts

This was one of my top hostel stays from my travels so far. From the funky decor and the comfortable hammocks, to the cushy bed and the included breakfast. I’d highly recommend Qbeds to anyone looking for a comfortable and affordable stay in Quebec City.
